vacuum system

Options
We have a heating system with 12psi. Condensate goes to the condensate tank. 2 Pumps are alternating pumping condensate out of the return tank. After cond. pump runs it pumps condensate down to approx. 3in. in gauge glass. The pump shuts off and the cond. siphons below the gage glass. Why would this happen installed a new check valve in line that was bad. put a combination gauge (press/vac) and when water siphons out of gage glass there is a vacuum of 1-2psi on the system. this one has me baffled. even thought the pump when it shuts off (spinning) would cause the vacuum but this is not the case. Any help would be appreciated.

    Questions for you, Roger

    1. What is the pump outlet piping configuration? Does it rise and then drop into another line? This may create a siphon effect thus drawing a vacuum.

    2. Is the receiver vented and if so is it open and clear? Nothing like an open vent to break a vacuum.

    piping is 1-1/4". No it does not rise. The heating system is on a second floor. This 1-1/4" pipe goes to a pit( where) water, DHW<DHWR<HP steam 100# then to a power plant approx. 150 yds away. No piping has been changed just new seals and gaskets (and they) don't leak. The reciever is vented and I am assuming that it is clear. the thing that has got me puzzled is where the vacuum is coming from and it never did this before. After it gets to the power plant it dumps into a cond. return tank .
