steam radiator vents
Gortons recommends using a #4 radiator vent on the radiator thats in the room were the stat is. What if that radiator is the biggest rad in the house. I thought u are supposed to vent rad's according to their size. I have a #5 on their now is that to small. Trying to balance system the best way i can. Any info would be great. Thanks0 -
Balance
Another balancing rule is to under vent the radiator closest to the T-stat so the rest have more time to vent before the T-stat is satisfied

Remember
...if the room with the thermostat gets hot and satisfies the thermostat before all the radiators heat, the boiler will turn off and you'll have a cold room.
Usually you have to experiment a little.

You can balance your whole system by measuring the cubic ft. of air in the radiators and the run-outs. Buy the download " Balancing steam systems using a vent capacity chart." I balance systems using this and always get great results. Read all the books you can and you'll soon find that there are a lot of variables that need to be in place in order for your system to work quitly and efficiantly.0 -
