No dice they don't want to hear it ,The 2 rads in question are the only 2 on the second floor and the one they are complaning about is pretty hot but i do believe that when you stuff your dirty laundry under it block the convector you don't get heat right .At least that's what i think and also when you frame half the room into a closet and the other rad in now in there instead of the bedroom can make the room cold yeah ? All the traps except 2 are original from when the home was built 1908 ,this of course was a freebe for me just helping a buddy out i had advised him to include this in his quote but he did not at this point there's nothng i can do this is the second or thrid time i've gone back for free i do believe i'm done plus this home has all the original galv water lines and they complain about no water pressure at certain fixtures i don't know about you but how many times do you go to a custemeers home for free to clean airorators and explain you need new water lines .I just don,t get it any more every day i'm closer to being a bagger at the A& P and tossing the tools away ,thanks clammy

    Trap replace,ment

OK now who"s going to help me fiqure out or better yet what wording to use ,I only installed the boiler and did recommend replacing all 18 of these 85 year old traps .I just help a buddy do the removale and all the piping ,replaceing all the wet reurns now with some rads hot other not hot so0me getting hot through the return .HO really doesn,t believe that the traps cold be wasted .How do you deal with these people ,this is the first i've heard about it and the boiler was installed and running now for at least 3 months .Of course they never had this promblem with the old boiler but that boiler only needed water every 1/2 hour .Could use some advice in swinging this custemer to go for the trap replacement .Thanks clammy

    Proof of effectiveness

If the HO needs convincing that traps solve the problem (and of course if you are confident this is what it is), replace one on a sample problem radiator. It heats, you keep going.

Against a retainer paid in advance of course. Let's not go THERE again :)

    My turn tohelp you

Clammy, as a home owner, what I would need to hear is:
" Before we started the job, we recommended changing the traps because traps have a lifespan of three years. We didn't change them because you believed the were functional but the past three months have proved otherwise. You took a chance to save money by purchasing half a system. It was worth a shot but it didn't pan out. Now, you must buy the other half and you won't regret it.

    None so deaf

as those who will not hear, Clammy.

Or as Dorothy Parker once said,

"You can lead a "horticulture" but you cannot make her think".

    oh well,

sorry to hear that. Some folks are just hard headed or maybe just cash poor. I wouldn't waste any more time. I would give them the number of a competitor that I don't like.

    Your answer was better, Joe.

Your final suggestion is better still!
