The pressuretrol on my gas fired Smith steam boiler is set at 1.5 psi. When the boiler is "cookin" the steam gauge reads 6 psi. Last year I had a new McDonnell-Miller low water cutoff (upon which the pressuretrol sits) installed. could mis-wiring the pressuretrol have anything to do with the abnomally high pressure.

Could be...
But my first thought is that the pressuretrol or the pigtail it sits on is clogged. Very easy for these small passages to become blocked. The result is the pressuretrol can't sense the boiler pressure.0 -
No pigtail. and its been this way forever with no problems.0 -
That could do it too...
The steam finally distroyed the diaphram in the control since no pigtail was protecting it.
