Thanks Rusty, I did a visual last night but I didn't pull the pump and look at the seal. I will take a look when I get out there today. Thanks for your help.

    Oil fired furnace locks out

I had a call on an Olsen oil fired warm air furnace. It started locking out every few hours. When reset it would fire right off without any delay. Found oil residue back at transformer contacts and on cad cell. Replaced nozzle, wiped up residue and fired system off effortlessly. It locked out again last night. How can oil be misting back against the airflow of the combustion blower. The draft is negative over the fire and at the breach.

    Lock Out

You may have more than one problem, and a good place to start is looking for oil leak(s) on the fuel piping at the oil pump and at the pump shaft seal. We use dry powder like Odor-Gone or cement to pinpoint the source. The burner tripping off on reset may be from wet electrodes, but it's always good practice to assume nothing and go through the usual tests- cad cell reading, transformer, flame adjustment, fuel press. and vac., etc....

    Hope this helps! Rusty

Rusty, you were right on. It was the pump seal. In retrospect I feel I should have thought of this and am quite humbled. Thanks for your help. KB.
