Carbon monoxide in Brooklyn.

My office received a call to test a home for CO in a beautiful area of brownstone Brooklyn yesterday.
A young woman had been experiencing health problems recently and the family doctor was at a loss.
After some walk-around testing, I found CO gas coming in through an open window in the woman's bedroom. The exhaust of a dryer and direct vent boiler were almost three feet away on a perpendicular wall but when they ran, it seems some stack effect in the home pulled the gases back into the building.
The ironic thing was the girl stayed home in bed that day, with the window open of course, because she wasn't feeling well.
The CO detector/alarm in her bedroom did activate.

With the dryer running I picked up 5ppm one foot away from the window inside the house. With the boiler running, I read a slow steady rise to 30 ppm. I stopped testing at that point.
Problem identified. Now to solve it.
