If regarding thermostat...
I am no expert. But mechanical thermostats typically have an adjustment based more or less on current draw through the thermostat to heat the thermostat to shut off early enough to not overshoot too much (lag between heat generation and transfer to the room).
A good electronic thermostat (like I have now for 1-pipe steam) can actually learn what they need to do to keep room temperature constant (usually within less than 1 degree F, except while autolearning sudden climate change).
A cheap electronic thermostat might have no anticipator. The one that I replaced had a minimum 1 degree on/off, but often overshot several degrees from heat retained by radiators.0 -
Cheap electronic t-stats
You're right... There is a small variable resistance that acts as a heating element to get the t-stat to shut off early (hence the name "anticipator"). That way the stored heat in the system that's still coming after shutoff doesn't cause overshoot. The resistance is variable because the current draw of valves/controllers varies.
That's my problem too - I bought a cheap digital one and it acts like there's no anticipator at all, overshooting 6 degrees. I'm trying to find someone in Honeywell who can tell me the tech details...0 -
Thanks
I knew the people who knew would respond. What kind of stats was it that you are using that have the anticipators?

T86 or T87. Millivolt is not adjustable.
