Thanks for the input.
I wasn't very keen on paying for them to send me text messages with no promise that it would result in making any money.
Thanks again.

Has anyone used Servicemagic.com for leads? It's a pay per lead type of service that my Electrician Brother-in-law introduced me to last night.
He likes the service, but I was wondering if there were any Hydronic professionals that use the service and if so what are your opinions?
Thanks
- Norm

Garbage
Darin and I tried it for a few months. Absolute waste of money.
You pay once you accept the "lead". Well......after a few "leads" where people were looking to get equipment to install themselve's we checked off. Or how about people just "looking" for "ideas" on how much a replacement for their system MIGHT cost IF they ever neeed it replaced. That's right! You PAY for that.
Now, you want to have more fun? Call and complain. HAHAHAH! "We'll credit you on your next lead". Not one "lead" ever turned into anything other than a bill from SM.

Same experience
Too many "Tire-Kickers", with limited budgets.
This type of referral program is better for home renovators, or maybe even plumbers...
There are better marketing approaches to getting internet leads that result in a higher closing percentage.

Debitmagic
I call them debit magic. They just take your money and give you nothing. I've been fighting with them for 6 months. I never got a single job out of it. There were a few that I was billed that I had already sent an estimate to when their lead came. I have refused to pay for these and they threatened to hurt my credit. Be very careful. As a test I sent in a request and guess who they referred me to-Sears! I don't ever care to hear their name. Service should not be in their name. The only magic is how they tlked me out of my money.0 -
You guys are right
I did the Service Magic thing also.
A LOT of wasted money, wasted time looking at dead-end leads,
and leads from architects, builders that wanted info on systems, yeah
you pay for those also.

YO DEVAN!
Sorry you got hit too. Their sales presentation sure looked good though. FREE MONEY!!! HAHAHA!
FYI, I bought the REMS tool from the company you posted about. Multi-core tongs and yes.......pro-press tongs.(I get one leak on the pro-press and heads will roll!!!!)
If ya' ever have a problem with yours and need one, just call me. I got ya' covered. BTW, our favorite supplier will be keeping a stock of Multi-core now. BUT!! JG is not allowed access.(As per me) Seek the leprechaun. He has the pot o' gold.
ServiceMagic........be afraid......be VERY afraid.

As a user
(Once), I got an electrician with a substance abuse problem who never showed up after being hired but that is immaterial. Another time I got a very good electrician whom I used. He told me that you (the contractor) is charged something like $40 for every lead?
A second after I sent in the request they fired off a half-dozen e-mails and that meant payment for them regardless of whether or not I hired any. Does that sound right? I do not consider that fair at all, it is just churning for fees.
Then they would send me a "how did it work out" e-mail a few days later (had not even had time to get the tradesfolks to my door for an estimate let alone do the work.... Amazing.
I did not like how they treated the tradespeople. That is from a user's perspective.

Sounds about right Brad.
I even was charge different fees for the same type of lead.
Made no sense.
Thanks Mark for the heads up on multicor.
Good luck with your REMs tool.0 -
Service Magic
I also used service magic as a lead generator, again I had similiar bad results (I'm a plumbing, heating, A/C contractor)
The leads were horrible and the only thing that SM would do was give you a credit for a future lead (ha ha)
I changed the method of lead generation to another of their programs where they sned you a email showing the gneral information but not the customers exact info so you can review it and decide if you want to accept it (if you do at that time you are billed for the lead)
Even with that change SM is criminal, they continued to bill me saying that they had received info that I did the job. That was total BS
I wasted a lot of time getting them to credit back to my credit card the charge. All the while they insisted that they never credit back a card but only provide a credit for a future lead.
Bottom line run from these guys!!!0 -
Consumer Experience
I tried to get an electrician and then an appliance tech through ServiceMagic - they had none within a 25 mile radius which is somewhat laughable, but maybe not now that I am reading this thread. But, they did manage to call me on the phone several times and bombard me with emails letting me know they were looking. Not a great experience, but not exactly poor either....
Not sure I will ever use them again though.0
