Hi, I am planning on having a mod/con boiler installed. My heat loss is less than 50k. Are there any other companies besides HTP (munchkin) that fit the bill for the amount of loss I have? Also, my son wants to install one in his house. He plans on switching from oil to bottled gas. This way he can get a con/mod boiler also. His btu loss is similar to mine. Is it reccomended to use bottled gas for this type of boiler? Thanks for the info in advance.

    Mod/Con

We love the Buderus GB142-24 modulates down to about 20K from about 80K. I know there are others, we have had great success with these. We have also installed the Viessmann Vitodens boilers with great success.

    Baxi HT

Check out the Baxi HT boilers. Modulating from 35,000 to 112,000 btu, with outdoor reset controls, can achieve 97% efficiency.

When choosing a boiler though, shouldn't you look for one that most closely matches your heat loss to begin with? If I have a 50k loss, shouldn't I look for a boiler that is rated at 50k output? I know that applies in ci boilers and I thought that was the rule in con/mod boilers also.

Viessman, NY Thermal, ECR(Dunkirk), Weil McLain to name a few. Yes if you can find on that has in input of around 60-75,000 is best then there will be a little less hunting, plus the low end will be lower. What are you heat emitters are they fin tube rads C.I. rads, or infloor. If you are running these fancy boilers at 180 degree water you will be disapointed at he energy you thought you would save. For instance the Viessman cant run over I think it is 167 Degrees. so if you are on Fin tube and it is sized for 180EWT you will not want to put that product in.
What is bottled Gas???? Is that Propane that you are refering to?
    Good luck,
