Air trapped in boiler - help please!

Hi,
I have a maxol microturbo 40h boiler. I think there is air trapped inside as it is making a terrible banging noise before switching itself off.
I currently have no heating or hot water!
I found an air vent at the very top of the boiler, so I bled this and only a tiny amount of air came out.
Anyone know how I bleed the boiler properly?
Thanks
Kim

Which side of the \"pond\"
do you reside in?
That's a Brit boiler. How many pounds of pressure does the gage say?0 -

boiler
I am in the UK. Thought this was a Uk site - sorry!
Pressure gauge has 2 hands red one is on 1 black one is on 1.50 -
No problem,
at least we speak the same language (sometimes)(;-o)
One of the hands is pressure in atmospheres (possibly Kpa or Yank: PSI's), the other is temperature. If the boiler is piped properly, and not leaking somehwere, you should have at least 1 whole atmosphere of pressure, and with the boiler acting as it is, should be OFF, showing whatever the temperature is in the area surronding the boiler; 55-70F?
An air "bleeder" should be on or near the top of the boiler as you already suggested. If the pressure is low, there's a reason for that, that needs to be fixed. You cannot bleed the air out (which you believe is the problem already - and are probably correct), until the water pressure inside reaches one atmosphere (14.7 Yank p.s.i)
Perhaps a local service company would be the best bet?
Let us know how it works out, please.0 -
thanks
