Survey says!
I'll be leaving this Survey open until Saturday night. Your input is anonymous and confidential. The individual survey responses will be erased once the aggregated results are known.
Have fun and I'll post the results Sunday or Monday. More results will make it more interesting.
This survey is aimed at everyone who visits here.
Thanks
*EDITED*
Please answer all of the questions and please don't put in more than one answer in a box. That makes it very hard to tally. You should be able to go back in and fix if you have put in multiple nominations, otherwise those cannot be tallied easily - and yes sometimes it is hard to pick just one. 30 minutes in and we're at 24 - Penn state is catching up to New York.0 -
Hey Uni
the survey wont open up.

Uni
you say the survey is for everyone but isn't it really for contractors?
There were so many I couldn't answer in the beginning I stopped.
Looking forward to seeing the results.

Yes Jack
But they get their own section, and I'll also be comparing the answers in the general section between the pros, industry people and civilians.
So far 70 people:
·49 Pros
· 5 Industry/Supplier/Designer
·16 Of us mortals
I wish I wouldn't have copied the boiler mfr's from an online list. W-M wasn't spelled right on it, but I evened the score by mispelling Wilo. I am kicking myself for not saying Upinor/Wirsbo though.
Oh well... this place is all about knowledge tranfer.
Thanks Jack0 -

Very nice idea.0 -

Essentially so fat it's:
65% Pros
10% Manufacturers/Suppliers
25% Homeowners & others
The survey will close Saturday at 11pm EDT.0 -
Viega
When I took the survey, there was no choice for viega either.
You should do some more surveys.

Ted
Sorry... I didn't have a list of all the PEX products out there and I wasn't aware the Viega is a big name brand.
The survey tool does allow you to add it and many others have had to add Viega - Kitec/IPEX was also omitted unfortunately.
We have over 210 responses now.0 -
I put in Viega
under "other". Fun survey! Is this something you do for a living?0 -
wow
Is Viega that regional?
Basically in my area, there are a few main ones that are used, Viega, Wirsbo, Watts and Rehau.

Being based in Bedford, MA
when it was Stadler, I would think so. Joe Fiedrich made quite an impact, a pioneer of the technology we use so often these days.0 -
I used the "Survey Says!!!" quote when I had a survey done of my property. I had 400 sq' of land in the neighbor's yard and wanted it back. The survey guy came in and I said Survey Says!! but I guess no one watched the family fued as no one laughed...especially my neighbor who lost his parking spot and side yard...

Brad...
I work in that gray area that systems people think is finance and the finance people thinks is systems. Since, the finance people need to do a major survey, I got roped in because I can actually read manuals now and then so they figured I could be the technical manager on this project. I'm going to set it up, document how it was done, then hopefully walk away from it. ;-)
Not being in the industry puts me at a major disadvantage when it comes to naming all the various PEX manufacturers. Some day I might even get to touch the stuff for once.
This I did for fun to learn the advanced features of Survey Monkey that aren't on the free version. You may already be familiar with it.
The tool works pretty nice, but I'll have a lot of cleaning up to do on the back end - mostly my fault for leaving all the open ended questions. I can't believe how many pros couldn't decide if they primarily install or service. That was the gist of it. Another loose end was not skipping the other industry people forward - live and learn.

Funny thing....
I always took you as a savvy homeowner and hands-on person... Never used Survey Monkey, but I like the compilation. I would not find fault with your work, far from it- That is why "other" is always a good fallback choice!
I can appreciate the bridge position you are in, for my Susan has a similar job, liaison between software engineers and finance people who are the clients/users of the software her company produces. She is a CPA by training so falls in between hence without a label as if it matters. However, she did help handle the PEX yet refuses to gloat about the experience.

Yea that is funny
For never touching the stuff, you seem to have a very good understanding of the stuff.

I can't believe how many pros couldn't decide if they primarily
install or service, well I spend the base of my time Sept Oct Nov Dec Feb Mar doing service work and the remainer of the year basically doing installs so you tell me how I should vote?? ;-) Overalll great survey0 -
Shoulda coulda woulda
Uni, maybe a BOTH button would also have been appropriate. I only know of one company that DOESN'T do service.

Bruce, Brad
Bruce... that's what I would want you to decide. I thought people might want to see the split of most of the pros here but it's hard to count when has different explanations why they want to stay on the fence. Lesson... Make the proper fence next time.
Brad, I like both plumbing and heating and if I had to go back and do it all over again I think I would have started taping drywall at 17 and then at 20 or 21 started apprenticing with the right plumber.
Programming and plumbing are way too similar. Input and output, no dead-ends or loops. But the reality is that plumbing lasts far longer than programs.0 -

Mark
Unfortunately Mark, I didn't word that question properly. That error was obvious within the first 10 minutes. Maybe you'll be on the test list next time?
I wish I were a wordsmith - oh well, I married instead.0
