vacuum in steam heat system?

you probably have vacuum vents, which really only worked well with coal-fired boilers.

Is your system one-pipe or two-pipe? Are there vents on the radiators?

    I have a vacuum created in the system, is this ok?

    hi, I have a fairly modern boiler, I think, its a little over 10 years old, and recently rebuilt due to a cracked section. During normal operation the pressure gauge measures around 5psi, at points I've seen a slight vacuum, but never paid much attention. Yesterday we fired it up for the first time this season and I guess it was after it shut off that the gauge was pegged at 30 in Hg vacuum, this seemed a bit much, but what do I know? Any help or comments would be greatly appriciated. Thanks
