The silence is deafening! An AOK or "I woulda done it this way" would be appreciated. I took the time to post the pics and I value all opinions. Really!

Two for One Changeout
We got rid of a WM atmospheric handling indoor pool baseboards and a Raypack pool heater (located in a finished basement closet) and replaced them with a Lochinvar Knight 285 and TT260 pool HX. Too bad I couldn't utilize all the bells and whistles on the Knight. I'm running setpoint 170* for both so it won't be condensing much. The real issue was combustion air for both appliances so the direct vent was a no brainer.
We used Penn A419 controllers for pool and spa temps. The old toggle switch and manual three way valves were kept for temp and flow switchover. The pool guy did all the pool water side piping. We ran the 4" CPVC and PVC through the old 10" B vent as a new roof was recently installed. Pic 311 is some Runtals we modified for ceiling mount during the last go round on this job when they added some sliding doors and eliminated baseboards.
Sorry some of the pics are blurred. Is there any way I can rearrange the viewing order? I attached them in sort of chronological order.0 -
Electrical Panel clearance
Tom,
In picture 1334, is there 3 ft of open space in front of the electrical panel in that picture?

Just kidding...
Looks nice for 5 pounds of sugar in a two pound bag!
Any particular reason you wnet CPVC as far as you did for the exhaust? I know they want to see th first 6" in CPVC, but we go to PVC ASAP after the first 6".
A recommendation to all wholesalers of this product. Stock some 3" and 4" CPVC street els on your shelves for those REAL tight jobs. It comes in real handy when shoe horning, and every inch counts.
So Tom, what do YOU think do this product?
Also, check the setting on your camera. I had the same problem with mine. Come to find out I had inadvertently bumped the dial to something other than AUTO...
Good job.

I like the work and the out of the box thinking. The Runtals are a nice touch.

Well...
The upstairs boiler closet was the location all along. Access to the electrical panel is the same as it was with the old WM although I could have installed the Knight in the basement easy enough. It IS a subpanel but the concern is well taken. I went CPVC all the way up because I had enough. I was concerned w/ Lochinvar's spec's which said CPVC in any closet installation. I knew I would be running high water temps so I felt it was better safe than sorry. The sch 80 CPVC was pricey but I can sleep at night.
When I viewed the Knight at trade shows I was impressed with the fact they designed their own operating control. As I said, I wasn't able to utilize all the functions this go-round. I like the % modulation display. As I played with the multispeed pump to the pool HX it told me what the boiler was doing.
The rear clearance kind of killed me on this particular job as far as installation. I wouldn't hesitate to use this boiler again for a variety of applications.
I've been an Ultra guy for a few years. A Buderus GB (very nice) and this one recently and the jury is still out of course. Thanks for the input guys,

White Rodgers zone valves
I am currently installing a new Weil-Mclain boiler w/ Amtrol WH-7Z BOILERMATE. Existing zone valves are 3-wire White-Rodgers #1311. Boilermate has only 2 stat wires for use on a 2 or 3 wire zone valve. Can I successfully integrate 2 and 3 wire zone motors w/out a seperate isolation 24v relay? I am getting conflicting answers from Weil-Mclain and Amtrol. I'd much rather not add more contols unless necessary. Thanks! I love this website!0 -

Excellent install!!!
Hey, you're by the book all the way with that CPVC! That's a wonderful install. The painted venting is something that's brilliant! I've never seen that yet... maybe others have, but when I saw that, I was truly impressed. You have preserved the face and given it a new heart; melding the new back to the old when you get to the outside. Nice... What did you use for paint and how long do you think it will last over time before it needs a re-coat??0 -
sub panel
Tom, Nice job. But I dont think the powers -that-be is gonna be likin that subpanel location anytime soon.
Has it passed inspection?0 -
eberatt,
We are going to be putiing in are 4th this week.
Nice boiler. Easy to install and program. I just wish it was avaliable in wall-hung.
The display is great, it tells you exactly the firing percentage. Customers love that. It will show it holding say 180o for dhw production, and as the water temp. goes up the consumption goes down. Pretty cool

Electric panel
There was a lot of electrical work done in and around the pool area when it was remodeled and we put the dehumidification system in. It was inspected and passed with the subpanel in it's location with the old atmospheric WM. Even though the Knight has a smaller footprint, it's taller. Because of the rear flue discharge we had to plant it forward, making the panel even less accessible. I'll notify the electrician and hear what he says.
As far as painting the intake and exhaust I just used hardware store spray paint. The best compliment I got on that was when I used copper color on a house with cedar shakes and all copper flashing, gutters, and dormer roofs.0 -
