The only odd thing, is to be working and testing a heating system on the hottest day of the summer.

On the Isle of Long.............................................
Got the call in the spring. Ho at their wit's end....fuel bills 4 times what they should be.....no heat in 30% of the house. Had been told MANY things by many...included ripping out and going to HW. Then, they tried the internet.
Found as at this site. Long story short. 10 year-old Boiler was about only 60% output of EDR of what it needed. No main vents - period. Repiped and replaced with a new Burnham 5006 B and battery of Gorton #2s....trap rebuilds via Tunstall Associates. All radiators hot (including previously cold ones) in 35 minutes! Fuel usage WILL drop -drastically...can't wait to see how much. No spectacular drop headers here...wasn't in the budget. Sorry for the lack of good pics,,,,its one of THOSE boilers rooms where you can't get a good angle. Mad Dog

Well, since the boiler only needs one riser to the header
a drop header really isn't needed if you have the necessary riser height. But they sure look cool....
I hope this customer tracks therms-per-degree-day this coming season. We can add their results to our growing archives of steam success stories, to keep the gender-changers (thanks, Gerry!) at bay.

Actually, I was able to reuse the existing header too
which was made up of 3 1/2" and 4" fittings. Unfortunately, they won't be that fastidious, but I'll tell them to watch therms by month and compare. Thanks Frank. Mad Dog
