On another posting on the Wall Brad White suggests schedule 80 steel.

Is schedule 80 pipe the proper pipe to use on the near boiler piping?

What’s wrong with schedule 40, other than it is thinner?

    is really for the condensate only, not the near-boiler steam piping although it may not hurt. The stuff is heavy when you lift a nipple of each in each hand.

    We specify it for all, both wet, dry and pumped. Longevity due to corrosion is really the issue. That extra wall thickness doubles the life practically and makes up for a lot of sloppy maintenence. Not an excuse not to maintain, but rather a tinge of forgiveness.
