cast iron radiator..water

can i break down a cast iron radiator? i have a radiator about 40 inches long. i need one about 30 inches.can i remove a few sections. would appreciate any help. thx jim

If there are small rods running across at the top and bottom, they can be disassembled. Otherwise it's essentially impossible.
Remove the rods. Drive wedges made from a nice hard wood (cut lengthwise) from top and bottom between the sections to separate.
To reassemble I like to put a small bead of pure silicon around the nipples before putting them together. Re-size the rods (cut and thread), put them back in and tighten to pull together fully. If you're doing this with a number of sections I find it easier to get a fully threaded rod, then replace with the original after everything is together.0
