It's called the bottom of the condenser, with a txv system you check charge by amt of subcooling which reflects amt of backed up liquid. As to suction accumulators air to air heat pumps often have them and they can be added if you must put the refrigerant lines underground.

are not on residental A/C units becuase the TXV keeps only vapor going back to the compressor with a twelve to forteen degree superheat,assuming normal operation.

You're thinking
accumulator. A receiver is on the liquid side before the TXV, in the condenser. Not used on residential AC, they just let the liquid back up into the condenser coil, which helps keep it cool. Not much room for overcharging w/o a receiver, but that's not a bad thing
