Why not galvanized?

fail in just a few years. I don't think you need heat. Water PH and chlorides will do just as well.

Just Curious...
I'm just wondering if anyone can explain the chemistry or theory behind not using galvanized plugs/nipples in steam boilers? I know many articles I've read say not to, but I'm just curious why...

one word....
Zinc. The coating can/will flake off and cause problems with the boilers ability to make steam. kpc

My understanding was that this galvanic corrosion only occurs at high-pressure and temps above 250F... Not that it's worth taking the risk, just trying to understand the reasons behind the suggestions.
