Certainly creative and it looks quite permanent. In a real pinch it does look better than sheet rubber and clamps...

The guys
found this in a wall when we opened it up to repair a soil pipe leak. That leak was a rubber clamp split and then put on like bandaid, BUT THIS ONE is ... creative ??
It is copper wire wrapped around the tubing and then soldered...

It was late and I was tired!
I tried that spray on leak stop, but I left it in my truck when it was cold and it froze.
I was outta' hose clamps(lots of breaks that week).
Not enough room to get a good wrap of duct tape on it.
And Ken is right. That is silver solder. It IS up to code so nyah!

I love it!

yrs ago when i took a refrigeration course at a tech hi school the plumbing teachers showed that trick and explained it was not a permanete fix

The Big Picture....
I think he was trying to make a transformer with all of those coils. Where was he bringing in line voltage?
State of the art in my opinion, use the copper water line to transport water and voltage. Brilliant!

umm.. guys..
That has been done many times as a grounding detail. Wrap a #10 or 12 around the water line coming in, and hit it with the torch.
Saves on those expensive ground clamps.
I don't think you really need quite so many turns, though..0 -

Vacation
Does the quality (or lack thereof) of the solder joint have anything to do with the fact that the calendar on which the solder joint is resting is showing "vacation"? When we are on vacation, do we think about new and inmproved ways to join two sections of pipe?
I guess I should be telling my students that this is not the right way to do things, right? (snicker)0
