Does anyone know who first came up with the concept of inserting tubes through a boiler and rolling them? After all, it's one element of boiler construction that has survived for decades and had to be a significant breakthrough in boiler design when it was first conceived.

I'll take a
semi educated guess and say Babcock&Wilcox in 1867. They expanded(I am assuming they rolled them to expand them) wrought iron tubes into cast iron headers. Prior to that they had tried casting the headers around the tubes. bob0
