How to heat my new kitchen

Hello. I currently building a new kitchen. This room used to be a bedroom and was heated with a steam radiator. The new kitchen plan does not have room for a radiator, so my wife and I are trying to figure out what the possibilities are for heating our new kitchen. The kitchen is approx. 11X14 and has an unheated room underneath it. It has nine foot ceilings and hardwood floors. We don't have a huge budget for putting in heat, so we are looking for the most effective and economical solution. Any help would be appreciated. Please email me with any responses. Thank you!

You say it "does not have room for a radiator", but that's a matter of priorities! Also we can't tell what it does have room for.

You can't do much with steam heat, other than maybe put radiators in the ceiling (which could work), but if you convert to hot water or add a hot water zone, several opportunities open up:

(1) You can put radiant heat in the floor (not the cheapest option, but very comfortable)

(2) You can use baseboard. They make
2.8" high baseboard that will go in the kickspace under cabinets. These don't put out a lot of heat per foot, so you will have to make sure that you have enough baseboard.

(3) You can put in fan-forced units that go in the kickspace under cabinets and draw heat from hot water, they put out a lot of heat because of the fan.

Since it's just one smallish room, you could also just go with electric heat.

Sounds like you need a hot water zone off your steam boiler and a fan coil unit such as "Chill Chaser" or "Beacon Morris"

This may be the best way not the cheapest. Must be installed by someone that knows what they are doing.

Radiant floor

would be my first choice. You need to do a heat loss and design calc first.

Find a contractor that could zone off the current boiler or add a small electric water heater to drive it.
