I have a gas boiler with baseboard heat and would like to know if it is possible to add a few zones for new basement rooms.
What is the best way for a knowable do it yourselfer to accomplish this?
Should I use of PEX- AL –PEX tubbing with the Supply & Return Manifolds? Or is copper the way to go? Can this be mixed in with the exsisting system?
The boiler I have is dated and will probaly be replaced at the same time, it is a 1966 Federal -AGAinput 125K, AGAoutput 100k, NEToutput 87.5K. This now heats a one floor ranch about 1300sf, I plan to add a total of 900sf of sub level living space. Any suggestions on what is the best gas boiler for the money.

    well if you are doing baseboard I would do copper, but I have never used the pex piping yet. If radiant I would do pex, but remember the temperature of water will be much less then the 180 with the radiant. from a comfort point I would do radiant if you are doing it and have the time. its as easy as adding a new zone, circ maybe and some controls. with radiant i think you will definately have to ad a circ. but i am not sure. these are my ideas, wonder what others will say. as far as boiler, i would say Weil Mclain gold series, or Burnham, might look at the small one from Burnham, its a low capacity but high efficiency boiler, think its called solara, not sure
