What is the union made of on a straight run of 1 1/2 black pipe? I have to move a run over a couple of feet and am concerned it it ends up not being threaded iron

you are refering to steam?nat gas?oil?
there are a variety of materials if its steam i'd hazard the guess that it is black iron.0 -

if this is natural gas it might be a dresser coupling or black maleable union0
