Required Insulation Type

I have recently installed a Weil McClaine boiler for in floor heating. My contractor has told me that I need to insulate underneath the first floor. Can you recommend the R-value required and the insulation type?. I have been told that a high density foam faced energy sheild would work. This comes in 4x8 panels that would have to be cut. Also, I have been told that standard faced fiber glass insulation with an R value of 19 is sufficient.

Which product would you recommend? Thanks.

    R-19 fiberglass is

    generally recommended. What is key is that there be a foil reflective face below the tubing aiming upwards. An inch or so air space makes for a good "radiant flux" (distribution to and at the surface). So from that, I think the best deal going is to use the rigid with foil face up, and R-19 (5.5 nominal 6 inch) fiberglass batts below that for good measure. Sure, you could get away with R-11 to R-13 "2x4" batts, but for the effort, go 6".
