When doing service on a Riello pump that has phillips screws that are all rounded off how do you get to the pump strainer to make sure it is clean????

I have use plyers and squeeze real tight. You will only turn a small amount every time but once it snaps free you can get it out. Try a flat head screw driver. The right size will fit and hit the end of the screwdriver in tight so it will grip. good luck0 -
When we first....
Started seeing more than a couple Riello burners, I notices that the pump cover screws were made out of butter or something similar in hardness. I went directly to a marine supplier that sold Westerbeke diesels that was nearby. He measured the thread and pitch. He went out back and gave me a box of hex head bolts that were the same except that you could use them more than twice. I bought a box of 100, and after the first 25 tuneups got some more.
Riello has changed the cover bolt on their pumps to allen heads in the last few years. I would still go to someone who carries metric hardware and get a box or 2 of the same size bolts with hex heads.(as I remember the heads were 5/16, the same as most pumps sold in the American market) The techs coming behind me to service a Riello burner were eternally greatful after the switch. Just a suggestion. Chris0 -
Pump screws
You may want to invest in a posi drive phillips head screwdriver from Snap On Tools. It will remove most damaged screws unless they are totaly rounded. I would then replace them with Alen heads.
