    Steam boiler equalizer piping rotting

I have a commercial steam boiler where the equalizer piping gets pin holes every five years. Is there a way to treat the water or could there be another reason for this problem.

    Do The...

...pinholes show up at the same elevation as the water line in the boiler, but pretty much nowhere else? Does the boiler sit idle, but with water in it for extended periods? If the answer to both questions is "yes", then it's very likely oxygen pitting. The water will absorb oxygen from the atmosphere while sitting there cold for weeks/months, and it will pit the steel at the water line.
