A quick answer to your question is that you need an adapter to be able to check the millivolt drop across a power unit. If you will e-mail me I will get some info to you on this subject.
A good thermocouple should give about 25 to 30 milivolts output (it is called an "open circuit" reading).
A "closed circuit" reading should be about 1/2 of the open circuit 12 to 15 millivolts.
The drop out reading should be 6 or less, this is done by blowing out the pilot.
Again in order to be able to do this you need the adapter.

Is there any way to check the power unit that holds the safety gas valve open in a gas control valve when it is not inslalled in the boiler? Also what should the milivolt reading be on a good thermocouple when it's holding open the safety gas valve? Thanks. J.D.0
