small diameter PEX, e.g. 3/8", for in-floor heating in very small zones with low flow rates? I'm looking at a job that has some very low load interior zones, and I'd like to keep the water velocities up.

no problems here
I've used it on small staple-ups under tile floors. Bought it for "in the mud" in the same tile floors, but builder forgot to frame for the weight. I had it cut to loop length already so couldn't return it. Bought enough more to add another loop to each floor (yes, I calced it) and haven't had any problems at all.0 -
Jerry.
Look into Stadler Climate Panel, or Wirsbo Quicktrac. I believe both use 5/16 th tubing. I think you can pee harder than the flow rates through this small tubing, but it heats well for small spaces.(don't forget to masure to make sure!)
I've done both large and small spaces with the Climate Panel, and the results are always great. Chris0 -
Watch loop lengths
if you want to stay with a low head pump. Also your loop delta t, especially with tile floors. Nice to keep a 10- 15 for even heat in tile. 200 footers about max for 3/8", IMO.
I did a bathroom floor in my last house with a 100' coil of 1/4" copper. It was a mud set over plywood. Nothing beats copper for instant heat transfer

I use it alot
because it is so much more flexible. In fact, Wirsbo recommends its use I believe. However, its real hard to get 3/8 fittings around here since everyone else is hooked on 1/2 inch. When using Watts/ Heatway rubber tubing, 3/8 is the norm and works quite well.0
