and considering other options. I have heard that radiant floor heating is really good. I have an unfinished basement (meaning the 1st level floor is accesible). Is doing this type of install possible? I would also need to somehow get heat to the second floor. I am just trying to do some thinking about the future. I am considering doing some remodeling and that would be a good time to consider other things as well.

Tough to beat a good steam system that is installed and runnign correctly for good heat, byt radiant is a sure bet for even, comfortable and efficient heating. You could go with basebaord heat on the second floor and radiant on the first, which is done a lot. Do yourself a favor and contact a heating pro to help you design a system for your house. Don't try it yourself if you don't have the expertise. Your comfort depends on it.
