Can anybody tell me why steel compression tanks are mounted horizontally and not vertically?

plus it's nice to be able to see the water level on the gauge glass (and the tappings are always on one end.
It's ot to say it cant be done. H&G (Hamlett & Garneau) advised their ACET tanks may be installed vertically.
ps-Just cause the tank has a skirt doesn't necesarily mean its a vertical tank (skirts may be for warehousing/storage only)

to fit between the floor joists in the basement.
But seriouly Bluenose check the straps on those old tanks I got called out where a tank had waterlogged and fell, it really did some damage. Good that no one was in the basement at the time. J.Lockard0 -
