Could it be that a little insulation helped so much.........

......I had water hammer in a two foot stretch of pipe in my basement that had (for some unkown reason) its insulation removed. The pipe was near a drafty basement window. This week end, I replaced the insulation and it seems to have stopped (for now anyway).

Could it have been that easy to fix?

My thought is that the colder pipe might have condensed some vapor early in the cycle, and the water drops caused the hammer
