odor from cold water

in THE MAIN WALL
I have a customer who when he turns on the cold water line in the master bath sink it will run hot for about two seconds and then give an odor and then run cold.
The hot and cold run through seperate handles on the faucet, John woods indirect tank, Any ideas?

    Have you experienced this situation yourself? What are your observations if so? Hard to diagnose without observation.
