2 pipe steam with traps

i replaced a trap on a 2 pipe steam system because of np heat at radiator the maintenance man put in a trap side ways i installed a straight trhru trap but steam was coming out the return pipe as i was trying to change the trap is this normal?

it sounds like...
there might be other traps that are bad and passing steam. They all need to be fixed or your problems will start again.
Could be other reasons but I would need to know more about the system and how it was piped.
