It's the U.K.'s means of assessing an effficiency number to appliances.

And, as of 1st April 2005 (I'm sure the date has no significance!) all boilers installed will have to be A or B SEDBUK rated, i.e, condensing.
It is also planned to require the compulsory replacement of all boilers with a standing pilot light or over 15 years old.
The energy efficiency rating of houses (SAP) will have to be included in the details made available to the potential purchasers in every house sale.
The North Sea gas is running low.
