Yes!
A properly sized header uses rather large pipes, which can lose a lot of heat if left bare.

It should, but I love my custom headers so much
I forbid people to cover them up...if I can get away with it. Actually, the drop header on my boiler(not insulated) heats my whole boiler room...I'm leavin' it. Mad Dog
