Installed a steam boiler, installed all new near boiler piping. Everything done per. mauns specs. I noticed that the boiler water level will disappear after 5 minutes the unit will go off on low water the feeder will not feed any water (set for 2 min delay) into the boiler and a few seconds later the level will rise up to 1/2 of the gage glass. I flushed the boiler my question is where is the water going. The unit runs great there is no water hammer. So I think the water is returning to the boiler. I think i should go back and re flush the boiler. can someone explain to my by having oils in the boiler how does that effect the steam and causing the surging

With oil in the boiler
it forms a slick on the top of the water , and when the boiler starts steaming it has to break through that slick - which will send plumes of water up with the steam . Not the best way to produce nice dry steam into the system .
The water , or condensate , takes time to get back to the boiler . Depending on the size of the radiation , if the pipes are insulated , the size of the return pipes , or how restricted they are , the boiler can go off on low water quite a bit . That built in delay is a very nice feature to make sure the boiler does not over fill .
How big was the old boiler you replaced ?
