I am instaling a new boiler with exsisting pipes. A hartford loop was not installed on the old boiler. It has two 2 1/2 inch returns. The new boiler is a 500,000 btu boiler. It calls for a two inch equilizer line where do I make the size change, at the heartford loop or the equilizer line?

You can use a 2-1/2-inch equalizer

when a 2-inch is specified. The 2-inch is probably listed as a "minimum" size, so using a smaller one will cause problems. But a larger one won't hurt at all.
