I am looking for a 1/2" Broomell P trap for an old vapor system we are rebuilding. If anyone has a spare, please contact me (703-751-3288). If I cannot find one, I wonder what would happen if I used a standard thermostatic steam trap or inlet orifice instead? TIA

            Radiator trap
I'd use a steam trap, I think. Not that an orifice wouldn't work, but the trap would be less confusing to the next serviceman in a house full of radiators with traps.

            Try Tunstall
I don't think these are on their site, but I remember Tom Tunstall saying he had some or could make them. Is this the messed-up Broomell you posted pics of recently?
If you can't find a Broomell water-seal, a standard trap like the Hoffman #17C should work fine. I'd prefer a trap on this system rather than an inlet orifice, since the trap stops the steam at the same place the water-seal does.
I believe a trap will pass more air than a water-seal fitting- you'll have to check this out. If so, and if the system has a very large radiator on it with a water seal, using the trap on the large rad may cure a sluggishness problem there.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, this is the same Broomell job I posted last week. I will post "after" photos when we are done. -DF

            I've used
a regular steam trap with success!
