    Depends on height

a 6 foot height chimney will handle 116,000 btu's and a 50 foot height will handle 210,000 btu's ( Nat Fuel Gas Code!)
diffterent amounts in between. Btu's / hour input.

    Venting

Don't forget to consider the appliance you're dealing with, since there are different vent categories.

For instance, from the tables in the National Fuel Gas Code: A 5-inch b-vent, 30-feet high (no horizontal offset) can handle up to 220,000Btu/hr from a natural draft category 1 gas-fired appliance. But, that same 5-inch b-vent, 30-feet high (no horizontal offset) can handle up to 374,000Btu/hr from a fan-assisted category 1 gas-fired appliance.

If the 5-inch vent is being used for more than one appliance, the maximum changes.

If the appliance is not a category 1 appliance, then you need to consult the installation manual of the unit that you're venting.

    Depends

We need to know if the "lfue" you mention is the common vent ( what goes throught the roof) and what height and if your's is a fan assist or a nat draft.
  • Not an easy question to answer

there are a lot of things to consider, most of which the others who have posted already have addressed.

I have a manual available titled "Natural Draft Venting Systems and Chimneys" it is strictly covering Category I Natural Draft Systems. If you are interested e-mail me.
