2 pipe air vent and one pipe steam

I recently purchased a 1906 Victorian with a steam system that consists of a mix of both 2-pipe/air vent radiators and one-pipe radiators. Some of both types are not heating up all the way across. I intend to replace all the radiator vents and possibly the main vents.

Anything that I should keep my eye out for, or suggestions. I've read up on it in "Lost Art of Steam Heating" and have a fairly good handle on the principle, but I always look to the field techs for the nay other important info.

    They will only heat all the way across...

    on the design day.

    On steam systems, usually that was a below zero day, with the windows open part way. No Kidding.

    Under other conditions, the thermostat satisfies before the whole radiator gets hot. That's the way it should work.
