I need some input. I have a stainless steel liner in my chimney that was never used. I want to put in a coal stove to use up the almost three ton of coal in my basement. I then want to install a new oil boiler and complete new heating system...the problem is that I was told the coal will cut the life of the liner in half. Is there any truth to this?

Yes, it's true
Coal is brutal on s/s liners. It must be either 316L or 294C alloy. IMMEDIATELY after shutting down stove in spring, it must be cleaned and then washed down with baking soda and water from the chimney top.0 -
Liner-coal
Many ss liners have a lifetime warranty. They must be serviced every year in most cases to keep it up.Are you able to determine the manufacture? If so contact them to see if the liner is rated for coal.
