Cog Belts
Energy saving cogged V-belts have been available a for a long time, but they are not in general use by manufacturers. Cogged V-belts have notches for added flexibility, so they require less horsepower and can be used on smaller sheaves for cost and space savings. The cog belts have a higher coefficient of friction over standard wrapped belts. This higher coefficient of friction allows for reduced slippage. Cogged V-belts also run cooler than wrapped belts, resulting in extended life. Vendors claim that energy savings of up to 4.7% can be achieved with replacement of standard V-belts with cogged V-belts0 -
