Does anyone have any advice on the possibility of placing direct vent propane equipment in a daylight basement location? This is for a new house.

    Common application

in my area. Check with local code, NFPA 54, and local propane associations. Also the AHJ in your area, they sometimes have additional requirements above the codes, possibly a LP alarm and shut off valve tied into it.

    Thanks

Just spoke with my local mechanical inspector. He said "No problem. Propane is just like natural gas." This surprised me.

My concern was whether or not a floor drain would be required. He said no. Your suggestion of an alarm is a good one. The ground can shake around here from earthquakes, so an auto shutoff valve wouldn't hurt either.

That gives me great confidence in inspectors..

"Propane is the same as natural gas"!. That's really frightening. The difference kills people.
