first things first, remove the belt then hook the motor leads up to the main terminal bar. Then go from there

    I am having problems w/ a York RTU. I replaced the blower motor, 480V 3 phase, because it was overamping and making a loud bellowing noise. I replaced it w/ an identical motor and when I turned it on, I'm getting the same thing w/ the new motor. (Motor has been in the shop for about 8 years, so its not new, but never been used) I replaced the blower contactor (2 pole). Each leg is getting the correct voltage. 480 across each 3 and 280 each leg to ground. 2 legs come from the contactor, 1 leg comes from a compressor contactor (always hot). I cannot believe that the second motor is bad, just seems to coincidential that the new motor is doing the same thing the old one was.
    I'll add that it is a belt driven motor and it is doing this without a load.
    Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

    Some ideas:

    Are the fan bearings bad?

    Try this: Take the drive belts off and run the motor. See if the motor still makes the noise. Then try spinning the fan wheel by hand - with the belts still disconnected. Watch for "flat" spots in the rotation, and listen for noise. Sometimes bad bearings will give you a thump at the same spot on each rotation

    See if there is any play in the fan shaft bearings - shake it by hand.

    I suspect you have bad fan bearings. The increased friction would be enough to overload your motor.

    Not sure what you mean by one leg comes from a compressor contactor and is always hot. Seems strange....
