Is a float-type steam lwco such as the MCDonnel Miller 47-2 terrible for a boiler since weekly blowdown, and introduction of fresh water is required often? On the same thought, when should hot water and steam boilers be emptied and skimmed?

LWCO
I would only drain monthly, til water runs clear. You are only draining to keep dirt pocket clear so lwco float will work. As far as skimming etc. on all new installs or if sight glass is foaming or really moving up and down. Also on systems that are banging loud this can help. Botton line I feel is to not add water unless you have to ,doing this will help system last longer. Hope this helps0
