I have received two calls recently asking for rough numbers regarding replacement burners. Literature I have found specs only the Vitoflame with a very short tube and Riello using the long tube with full insertion but no mention is made as to whether the tube past the door insulation should be protected and an amulet used on the head-thoughts greatly appreciated.

I've not done the Vitoflame swap but I have installed Riello's with full insertion and no tube protection/ sleeve or amulet. I'm curious.

  • What do the specs say for that boiler with a Riello burner? Or call them. But I'm pretty sure no amulet needed on the head or air tube. Many Riello/boiler combos have the air tube sticking into the chamber.

There are 7 generations of vitola with a half dozen models in each gen. The one I am familiar with VB2 shows specs for vitoflame, viessmann chassis burner, or riello for oil. When in doubt contact the boiler manufacturer, and burner manufacturer. Preferably the burner mfr imo, though Viessmann and Riello are both owned by carrier now.

My Riello OEM download manual is a little dated, but they only show a setup for Viessmann with the model starting "BEA". Is that you?

I've installed many a Buderus G115-5 with the Riello F5 and a 10 inch insertion. The air tube is well into the chamber. No amulet. No issues. Go for it. What's the worst that could happen? The Buderus BE burner is no longer imported here. Those burners had a porcelain air tube. Many have been converted to Riello.

I'm not familiar with the Vitoflame. Is that the one with the metal ring in the chamber? And I don't know the flame pattern Viessmann calls for with their burner. If its got the metal ring or whatever in the chamber, that's the only thing I'd be concerned about. If their burner was designed to serve a purpose for that metal ring, or the metal ring was incorporated to enhance the flame pattern or some BS, you'd have to try to duplicate that with the Riello.
