How to reduce noise of riello 40 F3 burner?
Zen Center North Shore's boiler is in a utility room next to the meditation hall and we would love to reduce the noise. I recorded 2 short videos in the attached ZIP file. I hope you can hear it. All the equipment is 19 years old. The burner is a Riello 40F3. I don't have experience with oil burners so I can't say that it is louder than the average. Sometimes I hear a whine. If it was a PC whining I would install a larger slower fan. Can the burner be modified to produce less noise? Would another model be quieter? The annual cleaning will be 11/19/2026. Thank you for your help. We plan to install sound insulation on the walls and ceiling.

There is no way as far as I know to quiet the burner down and they are really no louder that other modern oil burners. They are a different sound. Your only real option is to insulate the spaces from that sound. One thing to check, If there is a draft regulator on the flue pipe make sure it is not on a tee.

The best way to make them quiet is to make sure it has a cover over it. The Riello cover will knock the noise down considerably. I did not want to download a 71MB file, so did not listen to it. If it actually has a whine to the burner, it could be the shaft end bearing on the motor is going out, I don't know why, but they are susceptible to that. It is actually the most common problem with that burner that I ever dealt with.

19 years. Replace it with a BF3. Its sealed and uses outside combustion air. Much quieter.
