I can't believe this was an exhibit at the 1904 St Louis Worlds Fair
I didn't think they would allow someone to remove that much covering for public display in those days.
You can even see her "coal chute". (bottom right)

I saw the stairway pattern in a late 19th century townhouse in Boston's Back Bay, still operating around 2010.
Most homes in that area were built with coal fireplaces and kitchen ranges; central heating was added later in most cases in the form of steam, hot water or hot air.
