Leaky irrigation manifold, seeking advice.

Hi everyone. Happy Easter.

I hope someone here can provide some assistance. The irrigation system hasn’t been touched since i moved in 19 years ago. I have 2 cracked irrigation valves that need replacing. I dug it up and was quite surprised what i found. A crappy job, I will attach images.

I’m not sure really how to proceed. I see two options. Option 1 is just a simple swap, new male x barb adapters, some polypropylene pipe and clamps, or option 2, i try and transition to pvc and the manifold

⚠️ I am not done digging yet, I still have to dig more, I am aware ⚠️

Really hoping someone here has some insight and opinions.

    I might start from scratch with unions for future service.

    After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

    When you are done making the repairs, you should install a valve box to access them in the future.

    Where are the cracks/leaks? Can't see them from the pictures. Those look like older Hunter brand or Toro brand valves. They should still be good. The heads are still available last time I checked. If the leaks are on the heads and not the valve bodies your in good shape.

    What type of controller is connected to these valves?

    those valves have a diaphragm that needs to breathe, i'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to burry them.

    not sure what your question is. can you unscrew the valves if you disassemble them?

    i wouldn't bother with unions unless it lets you replace a valve without rebuilding the manifold. it is easy enough to cut the hose clamps and remove and reinstall the polyethylene.

    rain bird. these are irritrol valves. the two on the side are cracked from the bottom, the two in the middle are in good shape.

    idk why there was no valve box to begin with. i found these because the water was coming up

    my question wasn’t clear, i apologie, i was asking if the poly piping that runs on top should be ran on the bottom. because it looks like the T fitting on the second valve is caving inward

    Ok. Irritrol. You can change the valves to most any brand you like at this point. I don't think Irritrol is in business any longer. They don't need to be Irritrol valves. I wouldn't repipe anything unless it works best for you when replacing the valves.
