“Caleffi Appoints Wallace-Eannace as New Rep”

I got an email with this title. I’m surprised. I absolutely adore Wallace-Eannace as a rep agency but I thought Rathe Associates did a great job supporting Caleffi in NY/NJ as they do with Tekmar, Hydrolevel, FloLogic, Laars, and others.
That’s all. Just my two cents this morning.
Carry on.

If I may wager a guess the Calefactio connection probably played a role in the change. In my area Calefactio has been getting aggressive with their air, dirt, and hydro seps. That's Caleffi's bread and butter.

I spoke to my guy at Rathe around Christmas time and he informed me they were not going to be the rep for Caleffi any longer. I was surprised as I always got the support I needed with Rathe. They certainly did right by me since taking on the line.

We have been dealing with Wallace Eannace for many years, things have certainly changed in the past decade or so. Hope they do as good a job or better with the Caleffi line.

The rep business ifs funny. They can dump someone anytime they please.

Its all about sales and $$$$ and little else.

    Maybe nothing else.

Maybe the only business worse than contracting LOL

I'd disagree with it is just sales.

Customer support is mainly what the reps are responsible for in the case of, and the mind the contractors, troubleshooters and installers, in their area. Before and after the purchase.

Pricing to the industry is the wholesaler's responsibility.

Training events are a big part of a reps job.

In a big city, product and application training for the engineering firms is non stop, participation in ASHRAE, ASPE, etc chapters and their events. Working with code officials so they understand operation and installation issues.

I had some great trainings at Rathe, and with their team. The largest ASHRAE chapter meeting ever, just coming out of Covid at their shop.

Around here if you're a contractor the reps don't even want to talk to you or give you any information.

Some reps definitely step it up to another level as far as constant training and contractor response and relations. That being said, down here in the Greater New York area I have found that we are very blessed and fortunate to have excellent reps, overall.

I remember starting out a totally green, First Generation plumber and going to EVERY seminar and class they offered. I still get excited and look foward to them. Mad Dog

I very much agree, Matt. We have access to great reps in NY/NJ. Rathe, WEA, Advanced Hydronics, thank goodness for Wales-Darby, Thermco….

Maintaining relationships with these firms has been critical to whatever measure of success I may bring to the conversation.

That is part of the issue. Location.

I am sure the reps pay attention in NY, Boston, LA, Chicago etc etc. Those are the big markets and that is where the sales are.

When you in Western, MA there is only 1 rep close by. Everyone else is in Boston, NY, Hartford, New Haven etc,

Hell, never mind any other states as far as Boston is concerned, we are in the wild west, and the state stops in Worcester. Except when they collect taxes.

As far as classes and training it is very rare that we get that around here and we are well populated. The local supply houses will do something occasionally, but it usually is more of a sales thing.

Most all the training and seminars I went to I had to drive to the Boston area or Hartford or New Haven.

Although we did see @DanHolohan several times in Springfield & Holyoke!!!!

George Wallace, the primary owner of WEA, would tell me again and again over the years that OUR customer was the manufacturer we represented. Our job was to learn our territory and think 10 steps ahead of the manufacturer as to what that territory needed (and will need), and then to deliver that constantly.

It’s a brutal business. The manufacturer can drop you with 30 days notice and no explanation. It’s in the contract. My entire purpose when I was there was to make sure we never gave them a reason.

Nothing but great things from Wallace Eannace too! At one point, I worked in the same industrial park in Plainview. Passed them Twice a day. I wonder if Steve Knapp is still running the training there? Class Act..absolute Gentleman. Mad Dog

One of the best. My father hired him as the warehouse manager in the mid-80s. He was great at that too.

Believe me…. Laars is very happy to have Rathe Associates. Great group!!!

Fun fact…. (the late and great) Roy Rathe was the first call I ever took at Laars, back in 1994, as an Applications Engineer. Now his grandsons are there. I love that.
